Past Gatherings:

Thriving in the Forest -Wisdom for the Elder Years

  • 9.30am – 12.30pm, Saturday 9 August 2025
  • Heritage Chapel, Marion Warradale Uniting Church – 9/11 Township Rd, MARION
  • Presented by Angela Hazebroek

Developing and nurturing spirituality as we and those we accompany are getting older.

Hindu wisdom teaches that the third stage of living after the student and the householder stages, is that of forest dwelling.

This is a time to let go of those things that no longer serve us, to take up gently and to hold lightly those things that give us “passion, purpose and joy” as highlighted by Joan Chittister.

What are we being called to at this time? How might our spiritual direction ministry change? What is emerging in us and how do we share this with those we accompany? There will be time for individual reflection and small group sharing.

Free for ESDA members, $10 for non-members.

Ordinary Heaven

  • 9.30am – 12pm, Friday 23 May 2025
  • Sophia Centre – 225 Cross Rd CUMBERLAND PARK
  • Facilitated by Philip Carter

Following the recent launch of his book, Ordinary Heaven – Exploring Spiritual Direction and the journey of human life, we are delighted that Philip Carter is able to be with us for a morning of input and reflection. Philip will share from his wealth of experience and offer invitations for personal reflection, and reflection together in pairs and in groups. For those who haven’t yet been able to purchase a copy of the book, he is hoping to have some with him and available for sale.

Spiritual Direction in Inter-cultural contexts

  • 9.30am – 12pm, Friday 21 March 2025
  • Sophia Centre – 225 Cross Rd CUMBERLAND PARK
  • Facilitated by Sr Trang Tran

A morning of input and reflection on the offering of Spiritual Direction in multicultural settings. What does it mean to be multicultural? Or inter-cultural? Or even cross-cultural? What might we learn from Jesus’ cultural background? Together we will take time to reflect on the impact of our cultural lenses and their implications in our practice of Spiritual Direction.
